Abu Dhabi: The City Municipality Center and Al Shahama Municipality Center, on behalf of Abu Dhabi City Municipality, have launched an awareness campaign on designated fishing areas in Abu Dhabi and its surroundings.
The five-day campaign is part of the “Darna” project and covers the same geographic boundaries as both centers. The objective of this program is to maintain the overall attractiveness while educating the community about the regulations and guidelines around fishing spots and marine environment protection.
The campaign’s objectives were to educate fishermen about authorized fishing grounds in Al Bahia Beach, Al Shalila Beach, Al Sader Beach, Ghantoot, and Yas Beach as well as to increase their awareness of unauthorized fishing locations.
The township stated that all beaches that do not have signage prohibiting fishing are thought to be open and permitted for fishing.
It further emphasized that, in accordance with the guidelines set forth by pertinent agencies, such as the Environment Agency – Abu Dhabi (EAD), the restriction of fishing in some locations is consistent with the objectives of maintaining the sustainability of natural resources and maintaining the area’s overall beauty.
The awareness campaign comprised text messaging, setting up field trips to fishing locations, and posting educational publications on the municipality’s social media accounts and “Freejna” app.
The Abu Dhabi Municipality issued an appeal to all fishermen to respect the area’s general cleaning regulations, help maintain the area’s overall beauty, and avoid leaving any trash behind that could contaminate the beaches or marine environment. The importance of community involvement in preserving and protecting natural amenities is highlighted by this call.
