Sharjah: The Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority (SRTA) is collaborating with BEEAH in order to deploy and operate electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across the Emirate of Sharjah, including the city and coastal regions.
At the BEEAH Headquarters, senior BEEAH Group executives and Dr. Eng. Yousif Khamis Mohamed Alathmane, the Chairman of SRTA, met with Khaled Al Huraimel, the Group CEO and Vice Chairman of BEEAH, and his delegates to discuss collaboration strategies and opportunities.
By enabling people to transition to electric vehicles, the EV charging network will strengthen Sharjah’s standing as a leader in sustainability within the region.
Throughout the emirate, hundreds of chargers will be placed in key commercial and urban areas, along highways, in various districts, and in strategic locations to enable quick, easy, and public charging.
Shorter travel times between charging stations will give EV drivers more peace of mind. The new network of chargers will complement the emirate’s current EV charging infrastructure and include fast chargers.
The chairman of SRTA said that, “The ‘Electric Chargers’ project, in collaboration with BEEAH, is a flagship initiative that promotes renewable and environmentally friendly energy in Sharjah. It underlines our commitment to aligning with the UAE’s rapid advancements in sustainable development applications, supporting green energy, and adhering to national strategies aimed at enhancing mechanisms for achieving sustainability in energy and climate change.”
SRTA and BEEAH are working to enhance Sharjah’s network of EV chargers in line with the National Electric Vehicles Policy, which aims to turn the UAE into a global market for electric vehicles and increase the share of EVs to 50 percent of total vehicles on the roads by 2050. The network will support Sharjah’s vision to elevate the quality of life for residents and shape sustainable, smart cities.
