Sharjah: H.H. Dr. Sheikh Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, inspected the Al Lyyah Water Canal project in Sharjah this Monday. The project, which covers an 800-metre stretch, is designed to enhance the water flow from the Arabian Gulf into Khalid Lake.
Initiated in January 2023, the development includes the construction of two primary bridges, a water canal, a breakwater, and a promenade. During his visit, Sheikh Sultan reviewed the project timeline, which details the construction phases and the integration with neighboring developments like Al-Alam Island and Khalid Lake.

The Ruler of Sharjah was updated on the current progress, including the excavation and bridge construction efforts. He also examined the architectural plans, noting the 320-metre-long wave breaker intended to shield the canal walls and support safe water movement.
Further discussions during the tour covered the completion and testing of the breakwater and canal to ensure structural safety against extreme weather conditions. The tests confirmed the effectiveness of these structures in managing water flow.
Looking ahead, the next phase of the project will introduce a new waterfront area featuring Islamic architecture, designed to complement the nearby government buildings and Al Jubail Market.
