Dubai: Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Executive Council has endorsed a series of initiatives to alleviate the impact of severe weather conditions in Dubai. Following a meeting with government entity heads, Sheikh Hamdan, guided by the principles of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, emphasized the emirate’s preparedness and robust crisis response capabilities.
Key actions include:
- Supporting Affected Citizens: A committee will prioritize repairs to homes of Emirati citizens impacted by the heavy rains.
- Restoring Normalcy in Communities: Real estate developers will work with authorities to expedite repairs and provide essential services like temporary housing and food distribution – free of charge – to affected residents.
- Ensuring Resident Well-being: A dedicated committee, chaired by the CEO of Mohammed Bin Rashid Housing Establishment, will address citizen needs arising from the weather event. This includes concerns related to repairs, insurance, and temporary accommodation.
- Providing Humanitarian Support: Dubai’s Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department will monitor and offer assistance to those in need. Additionally, the Community Development Authority will activate a platform for private sector donations to support residents affected by the extreme weather.
The initiatives, crafted to urgently mitigate the weather effects, will involve community volunteers and government teams actively implementing solutions based on detailed assessments of the affected areas. Sheikh Hamdan has directed the creation of a committee, led by Omar Bushahab, to review requests from Emirati citizens impacted by the heavy rains, focusing on repairing and rehabilitating their homes as a priority.
Additionally, Sheikh Hamdan ordered the Dubai Land Department and the Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA) to collaborate with property developers to restore normalcy quickly. Affected residents will receive several support services at no additional charge, including alternative housing, food distribution, pest control, enhanced security, cleaning services, damage documentation, and risk assessments.
Furthermore, Sheikh Hamdan has directed the establishment of a special committee to support affected individuals, involving key agencies such as the Community Development Authority, Dubai Municipality, Roads and Transport Authority, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, and the Department of Economy and Tourism. This committee will handle requests promptly, ensuring efficient resolution of issues faced by citizens due to the recent rains.
The Crown Prince also commended the Department of Economy and Tourism for its collaboration with the private sector to provide temporary housing in hotels for affected citizens until their homes are repaired. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of all residents and stressed that he would personally monitor the progress of the implemented measures.
In addition to these efforts, Sheikh Hamdan instructed the Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department to provide necessary humanitarian assistance and activated the ‘Jood’ platform for private sector contributions to aid those affected by adverse weather conditions.
