Algiers: The Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) commended the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for its efforts to support Arab countries, especially Palestine, during the 36th AIPU Conference in Algiers.
In a statement at the conclusion of the conference, the AIPU highlighted the UAE’s leading role in providing humanitarian and medical aid to the Gaza Strip. The UAE’s diplomatic efforts to mitigate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza were also acknowledged, particularly during its term as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, which led to the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2720.
The AIPU also praised the UAE’s significant contribution to securing a resolution in the UN General Assembly, which garnered 143 votes, calling for full membership for the State of Palestine and granting it deserved privileges in international and regional meetings.
Additionally, the AIPU recognized the UAE’s exceptional efforts on Arab, regional, and international levels. This includes hosting the 28th UN Climate Change Conference (COP28) and contributing to global efforts to address climate change, one of the world’s most pressing issues.
The Federal National Council’s parliamentary delegation at the conference was led by Tariq Humaid Al Tayer, First Deputy Speaker of the FNC, along with several FNC members.
