Morocco: Sharjah’s Department of Culture, in partnership with the Moroccan Ministry of Youth, Culture, and Communication, has wrapped up the fifth edition of the Moroccan Poets Festival in Tetouan, Morocco.
It was the eighth anniversary of the House of Poetry in Tetouan’s foundation, and the three-day celebration honored poetry and its founders. A lively atmosphere of artistic expression was fostered by the participation of over thirty poets, thinkers, and artists in the festival.
The closing ceremony took place at the School of National Arts and Crafts in Tetouan, with a large number of writers, intellectuals, and university students in attendance.
Notable attendees included Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Owais, Chairman of the Department of Culture in Sharjah; Dr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qasir, Director of the Department of Cultural Affairs; Dr. Youssef Al Fehri, Head of the École Normale Supérieure in the city of Martil; and Mukhles Al Saghir, Director of the House of Poetry in Tetouan.
Al Saghir emphasized how unique this year’s festival was, bringing together a variety of artistic mediums including poetry, theater, music, and visual art. It provided a stage for poets of all ages, from well-known authors to up-and-coming artists honored with the First Diwan Award for Young Poets.
Prominent Moroccan poets graced the event, captivating audiences with their poetry during nighttime sessions and important meetings.
The last day included a thought-provoking seminar called “Poetry… from the Creative to the Digital.” The discussion covered the most recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) and how they might affect artistic expression in general and poetry in particular.
