NEW YORK: The UAE, represented by the Ministry of Interior, has participated as the sponsoring country in the UN Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS 2024), held at the UN headquarters in New York. The UAE involvement in the summit underscores its commitment to promote global security, stability, and peace.
The biennial summit is the largest gathering of ministers, police chiefs, and senior representatives from regional police organizations worldwide. It brings together police leaders from member states for bilateral talks aimed at enhancing international cooperation in policing and security.

Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations Jean-Pierre Lacroix in his opening speech, expressed gratitude to the UAE for sponsoring the summit. Lacroix highlighted that the UAE has made significant contributions, including hosting conferences to assess the performance of UN Police leaders over the past two years in Abu Dhabi and organizing training courses to enhance the capabilities of UN Police personnel. The Emirate had further helped to enhance the leadership of female UN Police members.
The UAE has accredited several officers from its Ministry of Interior as certified trainers for various UN Police roles and participated in field visits to UN peacekeeping missions in South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and the Central African Republic.

During the summit, the UAE delegation, guided by the nation’s leadership, reaffirmed their commitment to international cooperation in security and policing to combat crime. They emphasized the strategic partnership with the UN Police and their efforts in the International Initiative of Law Enforcement for Climate (I2LEC).
The UAE’s policies, established by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, continue to resolve international and regional issues under the vision of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The Ministry of Interior reiterated its dedication to global security and stability, wishing success to the summit participants.

On the sidelines of the summit, the I2LEC hosted a panel discussion titled “Guardians of the Earth: Global Law Enforcement Strategies for Environmental Protection,” focusing on the impact of police operations on environmental crimes and climate change. The discussion aimed to share best practices and enhance international cooperation in environmental protection strategies.
