SHARJAH: The Sharjah Private Education Authority (SPEA) has released the results of the second edition of the “Itqan” program for the academic year 2023-2024.
The program, aimed at enhancing the quality of education in private schools within the Emirate, evaluated the performance of 63 private schools offering nine different curricula, out of 129 private schools including 78,638 students.

The ‘Itqan’ program, now in its second year following its inception in 2022-2023, revealed an 80 percent improvement in school performance compared to evaluations from 2018 and 2019.
The results revealed that 100 percent of private schools in the Emirate now provide education rated as ‘acceptable’ or better, with 68 percent of schools achieving a ‘good’ or higher rating.
Specifically, one school received an ‘outstanding’ rating, nine were rated ‘very good,’ 69 earned a ‘good’ rating, and 38 were deemed ‘acceptable.’ No schools in the Emirate received a ‘weak’ or ‘very weak’ rating.

This improvement is showcased by the increase in the number of schools rated ‘good’ or better from just eight in 2018 to 79 presently. Correspondingly, the number of students receiving ‘good’ or better education has increased from 25,351 to 145,042, while those receiving ‘acceptable’ or lesser education decreased from 146,539 to 44,550.
In total, about 145,042 students, or 76 percent of private school students in the Emirate, are now receiving ‘good’ or better education. All 189,592 students in the targeted schools receive education rated at least ‘acceptable.’

The latest edition of the program, which focused on previously unreviewed schools and those that scored ‘acceptable’ or lower in the first edition, was conducted from January to March 2024. The initiative aligns with SPEA’s vision to achieve ‘distinguished education’ by 2025.
Dr. Muhadditha Al Hashimi, Chairperson of SPEA, expressed pride in the program’s outcomes and the ongoing advancements in Sharjah’s private schools, attributing this progress to the support of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. Dr. Al Hashimi highlighted the collaborative efforts of SPEA, school administrations, and parents in achieving these results and emphasized the authority’s commitment to continuous improvement in educational quality.
