Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK) and Khalifa University of Science and Technology have embarked on a collaborative initiative to enhance STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education in Abu Dhabi’s Charter Schools.
This comprehensive program targets teachers and 11th-grade students, focusing on elevating teaching standards and preparing students for academic success at university.

Over the course of the comprehensive one-year program, teachers from various charter schools across the emirate will undergo intensive training facilitated by Khalifa University’s esteemed faculty. The training aims to equip educators with advanced teaching methodologies and technological integration skills to enhance student learning experiences. This includes personalized mentorship provided by Khalifa University faculty and students, fostering a supportive environment conducive to academic growth and curiosity.
Dr. Ahmed Sultan Alshoaibi, Acting Executive Director of the Higher Education Sector at ADEK stated that, “Through this initiative, our goal is to provide students with upskilling opportunities at any stage of their academic journey, ensuring they are equipped to join top higher education institutions. Our collaborative program sets the stage for success in these pivotal disciplines, nurturing the foundational assets of Abu Dhabi’s human-knowledge capital.”

Professor Sir John O’Reilly, President at Khalifa University, emphasized that, “Aligned with the UAE’s vision to enhance human capital, our collaboration aims to prepare Emirati leaders for success in STEM fields.”
The pilot phase of the program has started at Al Ghad School-Charter Schools, focusing on enhancing problem-solving skills and applying mathematical concepts in real-life situations.

This will help them boost EmSAT math scores, master test-taking strategies through the ALEKS online assessment platform, strengthen academic skills, cultivate personal growth, develop communication and teamwork abilities, and foster interest in mathematics by introducing the inaugural Musabaqat math competition for high school students.
With a one-year timeline, the pilot program will utilize various teaching methodologies, catering to the diverse learning needs of participating students. The program combines rigorous math curriculum with hands-on exercises, as well as leveraging innovative tools and techniques, including ALEKS and peer mentoring. The initiative will be implemented across all Abu Dhabi Charter Schools at a later stage.
