Abu Dhabi: The 3rd Mediclinic Abu Dhabi Annual Cancer Conference concluded today under the patronage of Sheikh Nahyan Mabarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, with the support of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi.
Sheikh Nahyan emphasized the UAE’s commitment to providing top-tier health care, guided by President His Highness Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He highlighted the importance of disease prevention and the need for partnerships between hospitals, health workers, colleges of medicine, and community organizations to develop effective public education campaigns.
“We must identify and understand a wide range of risk factors, from environmental toxins to lifestyle choices such as nutrition, smoking, and exercise,” Sheikh Nahyan stated. He called for strategies to motivate people to learn about cancer and adopt preventive behaviors.
Sheikh Nahyan also discussed new technologies in cancer treatment, including nanotechnology, gene therapies, and personalized medicine. He expressed interest in how Artificial Intelligence can support individualized medicine and impact treatment costs and availability.
For the long-term fight against cancer, Sheikh Nahyan stressed the need for a focused regional strategy based on proper data analysis to inform future actions.
The conference was attended by over 300 medical professionals from the UAE and included 22 speakers from the UAE and Hirslanden, Mediclinic’s sister division in Switzerland. Hein van Eck, CEO of Mediclinic Middle East, highlighted the rapid evolution of cancer treatment and the importance for oncology professionals to stay updated with these developments to provide evidence-based care.
