Bangkok: The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team has continued its outstanding performance at the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Bangkok, securing three additional medals and strengthening its lead at the top of the overall standings.
With two gold and one silver added in the men’s division, the UAE’s total medal count has risen to 10 after four days of competition. The tally now stands at six gold, two silver, and two bronze across both men’s and women’s categories.
In the 85kg division, Saeed Al Kubaisi delivered a flawless performance, winning all four of his bouts by submission to claim gold. His teammate, Abdullah Al Kubaisi, defended his world title in the 94 kg category for the second consecutive year, earning another gold for the UAE. The 94 kg final turned into an all-Emirati showdown, where Amaar Al Hosani secured the silver medal, showcasing the UAE’s growing dominance on the global stage.

The competition was attended by key officials, including Panagiotis Theodoropoulos, President of the Jiu-Jitsu International Federation; Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Vice Chairman of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE and Asian Jiu-Jitsu Federations; Mubarak Saleh Al Menhali, Technical Director of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation; and Abdullah Al Zaabi, Director of Marketing and Communications. World champion Faisal Al Ketbi was also present to support the athletes.
Officials praise Team’s dedication and excellence
Fahad Ali Al Shamsi highlighted that the team’s success reflects the UAE’s rapid progress in the sport. Fahad Ali Al Shamsi remarked that, “Defeating some of the world’s best athletes shows how much we’ve advanced. It’s the result of hard work, planning, and unwavering support from our leadership. Reaching the top is difficult, but staying there is even harder and our athletes are proving they can.”
Mubarak Saleh Al Menhali praised the team’s discipline and determination, noting that, “This championship demands full concentration in every match. Our athletes demonstrated remarkable focus and commitment, and the results speak for themselves.”
Head Coach Helder Medeiros credited the team’s preparation and unity. Helder Medeiros remarked that, “Finishing first among competitors from more than 60 countries is an exceptional achievement. This success is built on strong planning, teamwork, and consistent effort.”

Athletes celebrate historic triumph
Gold medallist Saeed Al Kubaisi commented that, “I had four tough matches against skilled opponents and won all by submission. I’m proud to bring another gold medal home for the UAE.”
Reigning world champion Abdullah Al Kubaisi added that, “Competing in an all-Emirati final shows how far our sport has progressed. Raising the UAE flag on the podium is an honour that inspires me to push for more.”
Silver medallist Amaar Al Hosani remarked that, “Today, the true winner is the UAE. I’m proud to represent my country and will give everything in the Under-21 division to bring home another gold.” With strong performances, teamwork, and national pride, the UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team continues to shine in Bangkok, reinforcing its status as a global powerhouse in the sport.
