Abu Dhabi: The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has introduced PAN, a groundbreaking AI model designed to understand and simulate the world as it evolves.
Developed by MBZUAI’s Institute of Foundation Models (IFM), PAN represents a significant step toward AI systems capable of reasoning, predicting, and planning.
Unlike traditional video generation tools that produce short, disconnected clips, PAN maintains continuity across time. By combining visual comprehension with reasoning, the model can follow natural language instructions such as ‘drive through a snowy forest’ or ‘walk toward the lighthouse,’ generating sequences that remain consistent and logically coherent from one frame to the next.

At the heart of PAN is the Generative Latent Prediction (GLP) framework, which separates what happens from how it looks. The system first creates an internal latent state, a structured memory of objects and movements based on previous context and user instructions and then decodes it into short video segments. By repeating this process, PAN can sustain visual and causal coherence over extended periods.
Benchmarking results indicate that PAN sets a new standard among open-source systems in action simulation fidelity, long-horizon forecasting, and simulative reasoning and planning. These capabilities are expected to advance applications in robotics, autonomous systems, and decision-support tools, where anticipating the consequences of actions is critical.
