Abu Dhabi: The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) has launched WAI, a new community initiative aimed at equipping both youth and senior citizens with a foundational understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and its real-world applications.
The program bridges generations through shared learning experiences, helping participants explore how AI can empower individuals and communities in their daily lives. The first edition of WAI was supported by several partners, including the Abu Dhabi Youth Council and the Rabdan Volunteer Team, ensuring the program reached a diverse audience across the UAE.
Hosted at MBZUAI’s campus, the inaugural event brought together more than 30 youth participants and over 15 senior citizens for a day of learning, interaction, and discussion focused on AI’s growing influence in modern society.
Through a series of interactive sessions, WAI makes AI concepts approachable and practical. Youth participants were introduced to essential AI principles and simple tools through guided activities in prompt engineering, encouraging creativity and innovation.
For senior citizens, the sessions provided an engaging and accessible introduction to AI, including hands-on experiences and discussions on how AI can be applied to everyday tasks. All participants received certificates of completion to mark their learning and engagement.
Rawdha Almeraikhi, Director of Outreach at MBZUAI, stated that, “This initiative is rooted in the belief that AI should not remain confined to classrooms and technical fields but be understood and embraced by everyone. Through WAI, we aim to bridge generations by empowering the youth to lead with curiosity and ensuring that our elders also remain connected in an increasingly digital world.”
Aligned with the UAE’s Year of Community 2025, WAI supports national efforts to promote inclusivity and lifelong learning. By extending AI education beyond academia, MBZUAI continues to advance its mission of building a technologically capable, confident, and inclusive society ready to shape the UAE’s AI-driven future.
