Dubai: Dubai Municipality has issued warnings to several engineering consultancy offices after uncovering professional practices involving exaggerated structural designs for citizens’ villas.
The violations, which contravened the Dubai Building Code, resulted in unjustified increases in construction costs without any proven engineering need. The move comes as part of the Municipality’s ongoing efforts to regulate the construction sector and ensure compliance with approved engineering standards.
Authorities stressed that the aim is to guarantee structural efficiency, reduce financial burdens on property owners, and safeguard the rights of all stakeholders.

Eng. Maryam Al Muhairi, CEO of the Buildings Regulation and Permits Agency at Dubai Municipality, emphasized the importance of compliance, stating that, “Adhering to the Dubai Building Code is both a professional and ethical responsibility. Its purpose is to strike a balance between construction quality and reduced costs. We remain committed to monitoring practices to prevent excessive use of materials and unjustified expenses, while ensuring safety and sustainability.”
The Municipality confirmed that repeated violations would affect an office’s annual evaluation and could lead to disciplinary measures under applicable laws. Earlier this year, two consultancy offices were suspended for six months and barred from licensing new projects after breaching regulations and professional ethics.
By reinforcing adherence to the Dubai Building Code, Dubai Municipality seeks to strengthen the emirate’s construction sector, reduce waste, and advance Dubai’s position as a leader in sustainable urban development.
