Dubai: Dubai Municipality has launched the third edition of its community agriculture competition under the theme ‘The Most Beautiful Sustainable Home Garden in Dubai,’ in line with the UAE’s Year of the Community.
The initiative encourages residents to transform their home gardens into eco-friendly green spaces that combine beauty, sustainability and innovation. The competition offers a total prize pool of AED 300,000 ($81,688), which will be awarded to 10 winners whose gardens demonstrate creativity, environmental responsibility and modern landscaping techniques.
The initiative supports the goals of the Dubai Urban Master Plan 2040, which aims to increase green spaces, promote sustainable living and enhance the quality of life across the city. To support participants, Dubai Municipality will organize workshops, awareness programs and provide digital guidance for designing sustainable home gardens.
These sessions will focus on smart irrigation, efficient water and energy use, soil health and the use of native or adaptive plants, reflecting the municipality’s commitment to encouraging eco-friendly practices at home.
Participation is open to all Dubai residents, including homeowners across residential neighborhoods. Entries must reflect a balance of sustainability and aesthetics, showcasing innovative designs that conserve resources, improve plant quality and ensure long-term adaptability of plant species.

A specialized committee will evaluate gardens based on ten key criteria, such as water efficiency, biodiversity, soil quality, waste and energy management, microclimate improvement, cleanliness, maintenance, safety, accessibility, space utilisation and innovation through technology.
Muhammad Abdul Rahman Al Awadi, Director of the Agriculture Department at Dubai Municipality, said the competition reflects the city’s efforts to enhance the urban landscape and promote environmental awareness. Al Awadi emphasized that the goal goes beyond planting trees, aiming to create a culture of responsibility among residents while expanding green spaces and enriching Dubai’s identity.
Previous editions of the competition witnessed strong community participation and interest, highlighting residents’ growing commitment to sustainable gardening and creating attractive, environmentally responsible home environments.
