Abu Dhabi: Borouge Plc has launched the first Made-in-UAE low-density polyethylene (LDPE) for healthcare applications at the ADIPEC event, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s industrial and healthcare manufacturing capabilities.
The new product, Bormed LE6607-PH, is produced at Borouge’s Ruwais facility and is designed specifically for sterile pharmaceutical packaging. This follows the company’s earlier introduction of its first locally manufactured healthcare-grade polypropylene, reinforcing its leadership in the medical polymer sector.
Hazeem Sultan Al Suwaidi, Chief Executive Officer of Borouge, stated that, “This launch positions Borouge at the forefront of healthcare-grade production in the UAE, strengthening our leadership across the region. By streamlining access to high-quality medical materials, we are proactively advancing our healthcare portfolio with locally manufactured polymers that meet international standards.”
Al Suwaidi added that this development supports a range of applications, including pharmaceutical manufacturing and patient care, while aligning with Borouge’s broader strategy of innovation and regional growth.

Strengthening local healthcare supply chains
Bormed LE6607-PH is engineered using Borealis’ Bormed technology and is an additive-free LDPE tailored for pharmaceutical and medical packaging such as blow-fill-seal bottles, ampoules, and other sterile packaging solutions. It offers high purity, stability, and compliance with EU and US Pharmacopoeia standards, reducing extractables and leachables to ensure patient safety.
By producing this polymer locally, Borouge aims to enhance supply chain resilience, shorten lead times, and support the UAE’s Make it in the Emirates initiative, which promotes industrial diversification and self-sufficiency.
Expanding healthcare polymer portfolio
This launch builds upon the success of Bormed RG868MO, Borouge’s first UAE-made healthcare-grade polypropylene introduced earlier this year. The addition of the new LDPE grade further extends the company’s healthcare portfolio and reinforces its role as a strategic enabler of regional medical innovation and manufacturing capabilities.
With this development, Borouge contributes to the UAE’s vision of becoming a global hub for advanced medical manufacturing while supporting safer, more resilient patient care systems.
