Dubai: Dubai Police have set a new Guinness World Record after a high-performance drone developed at its Unmanned Aerial Systems Center clocked an unprecedented top speed of 580 kilometers per hour, securing its position as the fastest drone in the world.
The achievement marks a significant milestone in the force’s ongoing commitment to integrating advanced technologies into security and field operations.
The record-breaking drone was developed in collaboration with South African drone innovators Luke Bell and Mike Bell, a father-son engineering duo from Western Cape known for pushing the boundaries of drone aerodynamics and propulsion.

The newly engineered surpassed all previous benchmarks during trials conducted at Al Qudra in Dubai, where its performance was assessed under strict Guinness guidelines. To ensure accuracy and eliminate external influence, the drone was required to complete two consecutive runs in opposite directions, thereby neutralising the effect of wind speed or direction on the final result.
The successful attempt not only reflects the technical expertise of the developers but also highlights Dubai’s growing role as a global hub for innovation in aviation and unmanned systems.
Dubai Police stated that the breakthrough reinforces their strategic direction of leveraging drones to enhance operational efficiency, strengthen rapid response capabilities and improve field preparedness. The force noted that such advancements support future-ready policing models and contribute to the UAE’s vision of adopting cutting-edge technologies across essential sectors.
The milestone is also expected to open new opportunities for research, training and practical field applications, further positioning Dubai at the forefront of drone-based innovation and high-speed aerial engineering.
