Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Longboard Classic, presented by Modon Properties, the UAE’s first professional longboard surfing event, is taking place at Surf Abu Dhabi on Hudayriyat Island from 27th till 29th of September. This event marks the third stop of the World Surf League’s (WSL) Longboard Tour.
1st of its kind in the region, the event will showcase 16 of the world’s leading male and female surfers from various countries representing the United States, Uruguay, Australia, Japan, Brazil, Portugal, France, Hawaii and Peru.
This event will present elite surfers, including current world champion Taylor Jensen, who recently won the Bioglan Bells Beach Longboard Classic in July and the Huntington Beach Longboard Classic in August.
Also present was world number two Rachael Tilly (USA), the winner of the Huntington Beach event and Honolua Blomfield who won 2021 Longboard World title. They will compete for critical points in the race for the 2024 world title. The event organising committee revealed the details about the event during a press conference held at Surf Abu Dhabi.
Organisers said that the competitors will showcase their skills on the waves to gain crucial points for the WSL’s longboard season, with the Abu Dhabi Longboard Classic playing a critical role in determining the qualifiers for the Surf City El Salvador Longboard Championships.
Surf Abu Dhabi, the world’s largest man-made surf facility, offers a unique environment with its advanced wave technology, providing consistent, perfect waves for the competitors. Spectators can enjoy the event, with over eight hours of daily surfing action, food trucks, and entertainment in the fan zone.
