Dubai: The Women’s Committee at the state-owned utility service provider, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) recently hosted the Pink Caravan for its female employees to raise awareness about breast cancer early detection and prevention, as part of the International Month of Breast Cancer Awareness.
Over 100 female staff from various branches attended the Arabic and English sessions. The experts of the Pink Caravan team also arranged medical examinations and gave attendees vouchers for mammograms.
Ms. Fatima Al Jokar, Chairperson of DEWA’s Women’s Committee, highlighted that the awareness sessions endorse DEWA’s top management’s directives to foster a favorable working environment for staff to attain a balance between their professional and social lives. They encourage the formation of connected families, a strong and cohesive society, and active participation in the nation’s development.
The initiative moreover facilitates the preparation of future generations and the empowerment of women as key contributors to long-term social development.
DEWA Women’s Committee Vice-Chairperson Ms. Aysha Al Asam asserted that the Committee arranges motivational and awareness lectures throughout the year to maintain a balance among women’s professional and personal lives.
The Committee furthermore works to raise health awareness among female staff, enhance their knowledge of early detection and regular breast cancer screenings, and improve their chances of recovery.
The DEWA Women’s Committee works hard to organize cultural and awareness workshops that benefit not only DEWA but the entire society. The Women’s Committee works with other organizations to hold workshops to help female employees develop their skills, strengthen their national identity, and promote Emirati culture and the noble values of Emirati society.
