New York: Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken will visit Egypt, Israel, Jordan, and Qatar from June 10 to 12, 2024, to discuss a Gaza ceasefire agreement aimed at securing the release of all hostages.
Matthew Miller, the Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, announced that Blinken will stress the importance of Hamas accepting the current proposal, which closely mirrors one that Hamas endorsed last month. The Secretary will explain how the ceasefire would benefit both Israelis and Palestinians.
Blinken will highlight that the ceasefire would reduce suffering in Gaza, enable a significant increase in humanitarian assistance, and allow Palestinians to return to their neighborhoods. It would also help achieve calm along Israel’s northern border, allowing displaced Israeli and Lebanese families to return home.
Additionally, the ceasefire would lay the groundwork for further integration between Israel and its Arab neighbors, enhancing Israel’s long-term security and regional stability. Blinken will also emphasize the need to prevent further escalation of the conflict.
In Jordan, Blinken will attend a conference on the urgent humanitarian response to Gaza, co-hosted by Jordan, Egypt, and the United Nations.
