Sharjah: In collaboration with Sharjah Charity International (SCI), the University of Sharjah (UoS) assembled 500 relief boxes, supported by the Sharjah Volunteer Centre and The Big Heart Foundation, as part of the “UAE Stands with Lebanon” initiative.
This initiative, embodies the country’s collective humanitarian values aimed at assisting those impacted globally.
Prof. Hamid Majul Al Nuaimi, Chancellor of the UoS, involved in the campaign, conveyed a sense of pride in the university’s contribution to this humanitarian initiative, reflecting the principles imparted by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. The assembly of the relief packages, ready for delivery to Lebanon, involved approximately 180 university students and faculty.
Abdullah Sultan bin Khadem, the Executive Director of SCI, expressed gratitude to the university for its substantial voluntary contributions, highlighting the remarkable solidarity shown throughout the UAE. Khadem emphasized that the relief boxes include vital food and medical supplies, put together by students, staff, and volunteers from both Sharjah Charities and supporting organizations.
This campaign represents a significant aspect of the UAE’s broad humanitarian efforts aimed at supporting the Lebanese people and uniting both governmental and civil institutions.
The campaign was launched under the directives of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the follow-up of His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidential Court, and under the supervision of H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Development and Fallen Heroes’ Affairs and Chair of the International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council.
Since the beginning of the crisis, the UAE has provided immediate support to the Lebanese people by allocating US$100 million in urgent aid, and $30 million for Lebanese refugees in Syria. A total of 10 relief planes loaded with 450 tons of aid materials have been sent.
