Al Ain: UAE University has announced the launch of the 9th edition of the Chancellor’s Award for Innovation, with selected themes aligned with the objectives of the “Year of Sustainability.” The award is aimed at promoting creativity, innovation, excellence, and leadership in research and innovation activities at the university.
The award is focused on contributing to promoting sustainable and balanced economic development and prosperity in the UAE, consistent with the vision of the national strategic priorities and initiatives. The award is open to faculty members, staff, and students at the university, and it supports innovative thinking and scientific research.
The areas of interest for this year’s competition include climate change, environmental sustainability, space science, renewable energy, water and food security, health and medical sciences, education and lifelong learning, mobility and urban development, technology and cybersecurity, and social, administrative, and economic growth.

Prof. Ahmed Ali Murad, Associate Provost for Research, emphasized that the university is keen on launching innovative projects that contribute to achieving comprehensive and sustainable social and economic development in the UAE. The Chancellor’s Award for Innovation represents a stimulus for the innovation environment at the university, building the students’ skills and qualifying them for the requirements of the labour market.
There have been some amendments to the areas of the award and its rules this year. Registration and submission are made in two stages. The first stage started on 1st May 2023 and will end on 10th July 2023, during which all university members may register and submit claims. However, last year’s winners are not eligible to register, providing an opportunity for other innovators.
The second stage will start on 1st September and end on 31st October 2023. During this period, complete applications and supporting documents will be submitted, and then the evaluation process will commence. Submissions and inquiries can be made through the website of the competition or by contacting the logistic coordinator to respond to inquiries related to the award.
Prof. Ahmed Murad encourages students, faculty members, and staff of UAEU to participate in critical thinking and innovative research to meet the challenges in the areas of national priority. The Professor encourages them to develop institutional work and provide creative and innovative ideas to identify sustainable practical solutions.
