Dubai: The 14th National Dialogue on Climate Ambition, organised by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE), was recently held at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC). This event is part of ongoing sector-specific discussions aimed at shaping the UAE’s sustainability roadmap and supporting its climate neutrality goals.
The session, hosted in partnership with IMPACTGULF, focused on how digital innovation can accelerate the transition to a low-carbon economy. Discussions also highlighted the need to align green initiatives with digital transformation for a sustainable future.
Seven new entities, including Dubai Road and Transport Authority, Dubai Holding, and Emirates Development Bank, signed MOCCAE’s Climate Responsible Companies Pledge, bringing the total number of signatories to 138. These organisations committed to measuring their greenhouse gas emissions, reducing their carbon footprints, and sharing their strategies with the UAE government to support the country’s goal of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
Dr. Alanoud Alhaj, Acting Assistant Under-Secretary of Green Development and Climate Change at MOCCAE, said, “The National Dialogue on Climate Ambition underscores the Ministry’s commitment to fostering ongoing engagement with major corporates and the private sector, who are key partners in the UAE’s journey towards achieving net-zero by 2050.”
She added that private sector collaboration is critical to driving innovation and transitioning to a low-carbon economy, ensuring sustainable growth in various sectors.
The keynote speech was delivered by Aisha Al Abdooli, Director of the Green Development Department at MOCCAE. She stressed the importance of using digital innovation to develop impactful sustainability solutions and emphasized the need for both domestic and international collaboration in this field.
The dialogue featured presentations from Yassin Nasri of IMPACTGULF and Joëlle Jammal of United Nations Global Compact UAE. A working session on the role of AI in sustainability, moderated by experts from Microsoft and Digital Advice Consulting, wrapped up the event.
