Cairo (Capital of Egypt): Dr Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Chairman of the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, and Zakat, emphasized the UAE’s longstanding commitment to women’s empowerment, a vision initiated by the UAE’s Founding Father, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
Speaking at the 35th International Conference of the Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs in Cairo, Dr. Al Darei highlighted Sheikh Zayed’s belief in the potential of women, supported by H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as the Mother of the Nation.
Sheikha Fatima has played a crucial role in advancing women’s roles through her leadership in the General Women’s Union, the Supreme Council for Motherhood and Childhood, and the Family Development Foundation.
Dr. Al Darei stressed that women are key to combating extremist ideologies and fostering a strong national identity. He noted that as primary educators, women lay the foundation for the upbringing and ethical development of future generations.
He also highlighted the need to focus on issues like education, employment, and decision-making for women, calling for a renewal of religious discourse to further support their participation in these areas.
