ABU DHABI, UAE: As the UAE prepares to observe the “International Day of Charity” tomorrow, it has announced that its foreign aid exceeded $98 billion since its founding in 1971. This milestone highlights the UAE’s role as a global leader in sustainable and inclusive philanthropy.
The core values of generosity, solidarity, and volunteerism residing in UAE have driven its significant contributions to nations and communities worldwide. Its aid efforts focus on reducing poverty, mitigating disaster impacts, and promoting economic and social development while fostering international peace and security.
Celebrated on 5th September, the International Day of Charity is dedicated to global solidarity and addressing the aftermath of crises. It underscores the importance of supporting essential public services such as health, education, and housing.
The UAE’s deep commitment to charitable work, inspired by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and advanced under President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, has been unwavering. The International Humanitarian and Philanthropic Council, chaired by H.H. Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, oversees the nation’s humanitarian initiatives.
Reflecting the Ninth Principle of the UAE’s “Principles of the 50,” the country’s humanitarian aid is a moral obligation, regardless of religion, race, or political differences. The UAE’s notable campaigns include “Yemen We Care” (2015), “For Your Sake, Somalia” (2017), and “Warm Winter” (2022), with recent efforts such as “Bridges of Giving” (2023) for earthquake victims in Syria and Türkiye and “Tarahum For Gaza” to support Palestinians affected by ongoing conflicts.
This extensive aid underscores the UAE’s commitment to making a meaningful impact on global humanitarian efforts.
