Abu Dhabi: 1 Billion Meals, an initiative spearheaded by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI) to provide food support to the underprivileged and undernourished population in 50 nations across the globe, has begun distributing foodstuffs, food parcels in Lebanon, India, Jordan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan.
The Initiative, launched at the beginning of the Holy Month of Ramadan, has partnered with the Food Banking Regional Network (FBRN), the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Humanitarian and Charity Establishment (MBRCH) to commence food distribution in the 4 countries.
FBRN has already begun distributing long-term food items and food parcels with storable ingredients to the beneficiaries of the 1 Billion Meals initiative. Meanwhile, MBRCH is spearheading the circulation of food parcels containing basic staples such as flour, rice, oil, sugar and dates to beneficiaries.
STREAMLINED PROCESS
The Initiative, in partnership with relevant local authorities in beneficiary countries, is providing the needy with basic necessities required to prepare nutritious meals or instant electronic vouchers for food supplies
This coordination ensures the efficiency of distribution operations and, by taking advantage of technology applications, also provides direct access to the communities most in need based on comprehensive and accurate databases.
HOW TO DONATE TO THE CAUSE
Contributions to the 1 Billion Meals Campaign can be made through either the official website or by making a transfer to Campaign’s Emirates NBD account number: AE300260001015333439802.
Others can also opt for a monthly subscription of just $.27 (AED 1) per day by sending the message “MEAL” via SMS to 1020 on the du Network or 1110 on the Etisalat Network. Interested Donors can also call on the Initiative’s Call Centre via the Toll-Free Number; 8009999.
HUMANITARIAN GOALS
The launch of the 1 Billion Meals Initiative and the commencement of the distribution operations are part of the message of MBRGI, whose humanitarian goals are based on giving without any exception on the basis of gender, race, belief or region.
The initiative falls under the pillar of Humanitarian Aid and Relief, one of the five main themes focused on by MBRGI.
