Al Ain: After receiving endorsement from the Commission for Academic Accreditation, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at the United Arab Emirates University launched three new academic programs, namely;
- Bachelor’s Program in Visual Studies and Creative Industries
- Master’s Program in Arabic and
- Master’s Program in Communication
Speaking about the new additions to the curriculum, Prof. Hassan Al Naboodah, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, remarked that, the launch of these qualitative new academic programs reflects the college’s great interest to keep pace with the needs and requirements of the labor market, the college committees constantly and periodically evaluate and review academic programs.
The Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences asserted that the college continues to re-evaluate and review all its academic plans and programs in line with the standards of academic accreditation and the community’s needs that achieve the UAE development plans.
MEDIA & CREATIVE DEPARTMENT
According to Dr. Ahmed Al Mansoori, Chair of the Media and Creative Industries Department, the introduction of 2 new media programs, Master’s Degree in Communication and Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Studies and Creative Industries, mark the department’s execution of a plan to broaden, develop, and enhance its academic system in communication and creative industries while also satisfying the needs of partners in the digital media industry.
The goal of the “Bachelor of Arts in Visual Studies and Creative Industries” program is to give students the opportunity to develop both academic knowledge and practical abilities in the fields of digital design, sculpture, photography, and drawing.
Additionally, the program offers in-depth understanding of historical practices in Islamic, Eastern, African, and Western visual cultures on a global and regional scale. Graduates of this curriculum can find employment in the expanding fields of art, digital design, animation, photography, videography, or creative business.
For those who are interested in careers in mass communication, pursuing education, research, and teaching in the field, the two-track master’s program (professional and research) seeks to offer balanced training in mass communication skills and concepts as well as research curricula.
The proposed Master’s Program in Mass Communication’s primary goal is to ensure that the next generation of communication practitioners is knowledgeable about 21st-century technologies, has a thorough understanding of the subject, and is capable of using knowledge and skills in a global setting.
ARABIC LANGUAGE AND LITERATURE DEPARTMENT
Dr. Saif Al Mahrouqi, Chair of the Department of Arabic Language and Literature observed that, the “Master of Arts in Arabic Language and Literature” program consists of a single track that integrates linguistic, literary, and critical Arabic language studies, followed by the student’s thesis.
The student must earn the academic degree in no less than four semesters, Dr. Al Mahrouqi continued.
The Department Chair clarified that the program is available to both male and female students, and that it has been agreed that full-time or part-time students should attend in person as per the UAEU-approved academic calendar because it is an on-campus course.
Dr. Al Mahrouqi emphasized on how the goals and results of the program are consistent with the UAE University’s aim of “leadership and innovation in higher education, scientific research, and community service at the local and worldwide levels.”
The program’s objectives include fostering successful local and international partnerships and supplying the community with outstanding researchers who are experts in their specialties.
