Al Ain: The UAE University (UAEU) has forged research collaborations with 140 universities and academic institutions in Japan, as part of its strategic plan to establish international research partnerships and contribute to the development of science and knowledge.
The expansion of its partnership network is a priority for UAEU, which aims to align with its strategic research directions and enhance its international reputation. Emphasizing the importance of international research collaborations, Prof. Ahmed Ali Murad, Associate Provost for Research at UAE University, revealed that their collaboration with 140 universities and academic institutions in Japan has resulted in the publication of 284 joint research papers from 2017 to 2023, according to the Scopus database. The university is keen on expanding its partnerships network to advance its research outputs and impact while aligning with its strategic research directions.
According to Prof. Ahmed Murad successful research partnerships with Japanese universities and research institutions require shared research interests, distinguished researchers, and appropriate infrastructure for conducting experiments and field tests. He emphasized the importance of these factors in achieving the goals of joint research studies.
Over the period of 2017-2023, the research cooperation areas between the UAEU and Japanese universities varied based on their research interests and capabilities. As per the Scopus database, 39.11 percent of the joint publications were related to Engineering and Technology, while 22.2 percent were to Physical Sciences. Health and Medicine were estimated to have contributed to 17.11 percent of the publications during the same period.
Prof. Murad stressed the importance of scientific research in international collaboration, citing successful partnerships between UAE universities and Japanese institutions. According to Scopus database, research collaboration between UAE University and the University of Tokyo resulted in 56 publications with a total of 23,326 citations from 2017 to 2023. Collaborations with Kyoto University resulted in 53 research papers and 20,753 citations, while UAE University and Kyushu University produced 43 joint research papers published in Scopus journals during the same period.
