Dubai: One of the major telecom operators in the UAE, du, from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), will contribute a sum of approximately $272, 256 (AED1 million) to the Al Jalila Foundation, a global charity organization dedicated to transforming lives through medical research, education and treatment.
Mr. Fahad Al Hassawi, Chief Executive Officer at du, and Dr. Abdulkareem Al Olama, Chief Executive Officer at Al Jalila Foundation broke the news about the donation.
du’s contribution is expected to support Al Jalila Foundation’s latest projects including research grants that have created training opportunities for more than 400 young students and post-doctoral associates in the UAE, and contributed to 321 publications in multiple international scientific journals and 284 conference presentations.
Projects funded by Al Jalila Foundation have led to 6 patent inventions, 4 new discoveries and numerous local as well as international awards for research excellence.
The Foundation had recently revealed that it is partnering with Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) to set up the country’s 1st Robotic Biobank in the Emirate of Dubai.
The facility which is expected to be open in 2023 will have a capacity to manage 7 million specimens, making it one of the largest facilities in the world in terms of sample capacity.
