Abu Dhabi: The National Media Office has referred a group of social media users to the Federal Public Prosecution for violating media content standards.
The office clarified that its monitoring team works continuously around the clock to detect breaches with precision, notify users of their misconduct, and encourage them to comply with applicable laws, regulations, and directives to avoid legal accountability.
NMO explained that these measures are implemented to maintain a responsible media environment and to protect society from harmful or non-constructive content. The office urged all social media users to engage on digital platforms in line with media values, ethics, and social conduct, while also respecting the country’s traditions and legislative framework.
In March, the National Media Office issued a reminder highlighting the need for all social media users in the UAE to uphold the state’s values and principles of respect, tolerance, and coexistence.

It stressed that, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, it will continue to pursue legal action against those who violate these directives, in accordance with national laws designed to create a safe, balanced digital environment that fosters mutual respect.
Sheikh Abdullah Al Hamed, Chairman of the National Media Office and chairman of the UAE Media Council, affirmed that media responsibility is a civilizational and ethical commitment that reflects the UAE’s values of respect and tolerance. “Words are a trust, and those who carry them are responsible for making them a bridge for closeness, not a tool for offense,” Al Hamed said.
The Chairman added that, “Our actions are aimed at safeguarding words from descending into offense. We stand for freedom that respects others and upholds constructive dialogue. A word that plants respect yields trust, while a word that breaches ethics subjects its author to accountability.”
Al Hamed noted that, “We call on all users of social media platforms to abide by ethical and legal standards. Conscious participation safeguards the nation’s reputation, preserves the individual’s standing, and strengthens bridges of trust with peoples of brotherly and friendly nations.”
