Baku: UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has attended the opening of the COP29 World Leaders Climate Action Summit today, held in Baku, Azerbaijan.
Reaffirming the UAE commitment to accelerating climate action, Sheikh Mohamed emphasized the nation’s dedication to building a climate-resilient economy for a sustainable future.
Hosted under the slogan “In Solidarity for a Green World,” COP29 was inaugurated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and will run from 11th to 22nd November. During his address, Sheikh Mohamed highlighted the UAE’s longstanding tradition of environmental stewardship and its commitment to sustainable development principles.
Sheikh Mohamed noted the significant role the UAE played in advancing international cooperation to address climate change during the hosting of COP28.

COP28 marked an important milestone with the Global Stocktake of the Paris Agreement, which assessed progress toward global climate goals.
Sheikh Mohamed underscored the importance of constructive international collaboration, framing climate action as an opportunity for sustainable economic and social growth.
In his address, Sheikh Mohamed called on world leaders to prioritize mutual understanding and unity, stressing that collective action is essential for the well-being of all. “Our mission is to work together for the greater good of humanity,” he said.
Upon arriving at the COP29 venue, Sheikh Mohamed was warmly welcomed by President Ilham Aliyev and United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres. The leaders and heads of delegations later gathered for a commemorative photo session.
Sheikh Mohamed also engaged in discussions with other delegation heads, exploring UAE’s bilateral relations and the significant role of COP29 in enhancing global cooperation against climate change.
