Abu Dhabi: HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, has led the second meeting of the BRICS Steering Committee, held via video conferencing.
The meeting included the participation of several UAE ministers and senior officials, marking a significant step in the UAE’s active engagement with the BRICS group.
The session focused on reviewing the UAE’s ongoing participation and exploring avenues to further enhance the country’s role within BRICS. HH Sheikh Abdullah praised the UAE’s contributions, underscoring the importance of collaboration across national entities to maximize the country’s involvement in the group. Sheikh Abdullah highlighted that such cooperation reflects the UAE’s commitment to advancing global partnerships and its growing stature on the international stage.
A key presentation was delivered by Saeed Mubarak Al Hajeri, Assistant Minister for Economic and Trade Affairs and UAE BRICS Sherpa, who outlined the UAE’s active role in BRICS since joining the group. The UAE has participated in approximately 150 meetings, including over 25 ministerial sessions. The presentation emphasized the UAE’s priorities and significant progress during its first year as a BRICS member, setting the foundation for deeper collaboration.
Discussions also covered the role of key stakeholders and introduced new initiatives aimed at enhancing their engagement in various working groups within BRICS.
Several high-ranking officials participated in the meeting, including Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; Dr. Sultan bin Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology; Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy; and Dr. Abdulrahman Al Awar, Minister of Human Resources and Emiratisation and Acting Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Additionally, Sheikh Salem bin Khalid Al Qassimi, Minister of Culture, and Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Shamsi, Minister of Climate Change and the Environment, along with several other senior officials, contributed to the discussions.
The gathering reinforced the UAE’s proactive stance in BRICS, highlighting the country’s efforts to strengthen international collaboration, enhance multilateral partnerships, and ensure sustainable progress on the global stage.
