Paris: The UAE’s Paralympic team has concluded their impressive showing at the Paris 2024 Games with a fourth-place finish for both Maryam Al-Zeyoudi and Mohamed Khamis. The duo, representing athletics and weightlifting respectively, left their mark on the international stage.
In the women’s shot put F40 final, Maryam Al-Zeyoudi shattered her personal best with a throw of 8.62 meters. This remarkable achievement placed her just centimeters behind the bronze medalist, Tunisia’s Raja Jebali. While the Netherlands’ Lara Baars took gold with a new Paralympic record, Al-Zeyoudi’s performance showcased her talent.
Veteran weightlifter Mohammed Khamis also secured a fourth-place finish in the 88 kg category. Despite a valiant effort, Khamis fell just short of the bronze medal, lifting 210 kg compared to Ukraine’s Yury’ 214 kg.
Noura Al Ketbi, a member of the UAE national athletics team, secured fifth place in the women’s shot put F32 final at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
Competing at the Stade de France on Wednesday, Al Ketbi recorded a personal best throw of 5.92 meters. Her teammate, Thekra Al Kaabi, finished twelfth with a distance of 4.32 meters.
Ukrainian Anastasiia Moskalenko claimed the gold medal and broke the world record with an exceptional throw of 8.00 meters.
