Abu Dhabi: The UAE Journalists Association (UAEJA) has joined forces with the National Media Office (NMO) to back an anti online trolling campaign spearheaded by Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Butti Al Hamed, Chairman of the NMO. This campaign is a significant step towards combating the spread of misleading information and malicious content online.
Fadila Abdullah Al Muaini, Chairperson of the UAE Journalists Association, highlighted the association’s commitment to coordinating with media institutions to support this crucial national initiative. Al Muaini stated;
This form of trolling is perpetrated by those harbouring malice and resentment towards the success of countries, institutions, and individuals, who use fake accounts to spread misleading information and destructive ideas in an attempt to tarnish achievements and successes.
To address this challenge, the UAEJA is actively raising awareness among citizens and social media users through various programmes and events conducted throughout the year. These efforts include organising training courses for young journalists and social media users, equipping them with the skills needed to counteract harmful ideas and protect the integrity of social media discourse.
Al Muaini further emphasised the importance of this campaign, noting that it reflects the state’s commitment to enhancing security, promoting stability, and upholding the values of tolerance across the region. She urged local, Gulf, and Arab media institutions to adopt the campaign, stressing that awareness is the most effective tool in combating the dangers posed by online trolling.
The UAEJA’s support for this campaign underscores the vital role of media in maintaining societal values and ethics, ensuring that the public remains informed and protected against the spread of harmful content.
