Heraklion, Greece: The UAE Jiu-Jitsu National Team, supported by Mubadala Investment Company has showcased its strength on day two of the Jiu-Jitsu World Championship in Heraklion, Greece, by securing an amazing haul of seven medals. The team claimed two gold, three silver, and two bronze medals, resuming its strong performance on the global stage.
Gold medals were determined by Omar Al Suwaidi in the 56 kg category and Khaled Al Shehhi in the 62 kg division. Silver medals went to Balqees Abdul Karim (45 kg), Zayed Al Katheeri (56 kg), and Mohammed Al Suwaidi (69 kg), while Aysha Al Shamsi (45 kg) and Maitha Shraim (48 kg) added to the count with bronze.
Fahad Ali Al Shamsi, Secretary-General of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, commended the athletes’ accomplishments and highlighted the unwavering support from the UAE’s leadership, which he noted has been vital in bolstering the team’s global standing. Fahad Ali praised the success of both male and female athletes, highlighting that their victories not only add to the team’s medal tally but also improve their chances of retaining their championship title.
Fahad Ali credited the team’s rigorous training and preparation, including intensive camps, for honing the athletes’ skills and mental resilience. Fahad Ali remarked that, “Our sons and daughters have clearly revealed the effectiveness of our preparation, showcasing skills that meet top international standards.”
Gold medalist Omar Al Suwaidi, who faced fellow Emirati Zayed Al Katheeri in the 56 kg final, voiced gratitude to the UAE’s leadership and supporters. Omar Al Suwaidi stated that, “This success is a completion of hard work and dedication. I am proud to define the UAE and aim for even greater achievements.”
Khaled Al Shehhi, who secured the gold in the 62 kg category, spoke of the pride in introducing the UAE flag on the podium, calling it a “priceless moment.”
As the competition advances, the UAE team continues to compete for medals, with Mahdi Al Awlaqi and Sultan Al Hosni (77 kg), Saeed Al Kubaisi (85 kg), Shamsa Al Amri and Al Anoud Al Hosni (57 kg), and Shamaa Al Kalbani (63 kg) set to compete in today’s events.
