Abu Dhabi: The UAE Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation (MOHRE) has identified 352 violations, including inadequate ventilation and malfunctioning air conditioning systems, during recent inspections of worker accommodations. The inspections, conducted between May 20 and June 7, aimed to ensure compliance with health and safety standards in labor camps where approximately 1.5 million workers reside across the UAE.
According to the ministry, over 1,800 companies are registered under the electronic labor accommodation system. Inspectors found issues ranging from unsafe storage of flammable materials to failure to maintain hygiene standards. General cleanliness concerns were also raised.
As a result of these findings, some companies were fined, while others received warnings. “A few companies were given up to a month to rectify their accommodations,” said Mohsen Ali Al Nassi, Assistant Undersecretary for Inspection Affairs at MOHRE.
The ministry remains committed to maintaining high standards in labor accommodations and continues to conduct regular inspections. These visits ensure that companies provide their workers with adequate living conditions, including sufficient bedrooms, clean toilets, proper ventilation, and functioning air conditioning systems.
