Dubai: With the rise of Emirati Marriages in the UAE, Ms. Hessa bint Essa Buhumaid, Minister of Community Development has updated that marriage grants worth $51,971,138.73 were provided to 2,727 young Emirati citizens in 2021, a rise of more than 11 percent compared to 2020 where $46,653,959.52 was disbursed to 2,448 people.
The marriage grant is provided to the newly weds who are Emiratis. Ms. Buhumaid observed that the role of the marriage grant is to promote family cohesion and increase the awareness of young people and the value of building and forming a stable Emirati family.
Marriage grants for young Emirati grooms during 2021 are the largest ever since the initiative’s launch in 1992. The ministry is currently working to provide more facilities for future Emirati spouses by re-amending organizational decisions and conditions, facilitating the procedures for the disbursement of the grants, and motivating young Emirati grooms to achieve their ambitions by establishing stable families.

The UAE Minister pointed out that the Ministry’s commitment to its strategic vision aligns with the principle of achieving better wellbeing for all the members of society, whereas marriage grants are one of the ministry’s initiatives to empower young people and help them build a family. The marriage grants also come within the ministry’s objectives and plans which coincide with the vision and guidance of the UAE leadership to achieve serval social objectives such as establishing an Emirati family, strengthening family cohesion, supporting community coherence among Emirati youth community and promoting family culture among young people.
MARRIAGE GRANT
$19,058 worth marriage grant is disbursed to qualified couples to support the young Emiratis’ aspirations to build financially and morally stable families. The marriage grant helps young Emirati couples to start their marriage and family life with stability and reassurance, fulfil the financial marriage requirements and alleviate them financially, raise their awareness of aspects of family life after marriage, and build and maintain a stable and cohesive family.
PRE-CONDITIONS FOR THE GRANT
- The applicant of the grant and his wife should be Emirati Citizens.
- The age of the husband must not be less than 21 years while the age of the wife must be at least 18 years at the time of marriage contract
- Net income of the husband must not exceed $6806.42.
The couples are also mandated to take part in the awareness courses and lectures organized by the Ministry. To apply for the marriage grant, people can visit the Ministry of Community Development website.
