This follows significant unrest in Bangladesh, where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on August 5 amid widespread protests. The demonstrations began in July after the reintroduction of job quotas, which were later overturned by the Supreme Court. The unrest has led to at least 300 deaths, a nationwide internet ban, disrupted telecommunications, and the imposition of a curfew.
The UAE also warned its citizens in the UK to exercise caution due to ongoing violent riots in multiple towns and cities.
Bangladesh’s president has dissolved parliament, paving the way for an interim government and new elections.
