Khan Younis: UAE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Khan Younis Municipality as part of ‘Operation Chivalrous Knight 3,’ to repair water lines and conduct emergency maintenance of the city’s water networks.
The initiative aims to alleviate the suffering of residents and enable the municipality to provide essential infrastructure services within its limited capabilities.
The MoU is a critical part of the UAE’s efforts to deliver urgent humanitarian solutions to Khan Younis Municipality. The agreement includes funding to re-operate damaged water wells and reservoirs, as the main water networks have been almost 70 percent damaged. Additionally, 25 wells were destroyed and 12 partially damaged, exacerbating the city’s water crisis and making access to water difficult for displaced people.

Key components of the MoU include repairing water submersibles in the city, extending external water networks, purchasing water barrels for central filling points, and supplying operational materials such as solar and gas. These efforts aim to prevent health disasters, improve environmental conditions, and ensure water delivery to densely populated areas with high numbers of displaced residents.
The UAE’s intervention is crucial in the wake of extensive damage to Khan Younis’s water networks and the municipality’s inability to cope due to destruction and ground invasions. The number of displaced people has surged to nearly 900,000, further straining the city’s resources.
Within the framework of ‘Operation Chivalrous Knight 3,’ the UAE is providing daily humanitarian aid and water to thousands of displaced families across the Gaza Strip, aiming to alleviate the residents’ suffering amid the catastrophic conditions.
