Abu Dhabi: H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, has held a high-level meeting with Alexandre Silveira, Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy, to discuss ways to strengthen economic collaboration between the two nations.
Key discussions focused on improving partnerships in energy and mineral exploration, while researching avenues for sharing expertise and advanced technologies to drive sustainable development.
As part of the meeting, H.H. Sheikh Khaled noticed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the UAE and Brazil to strengthen cooperation in energy investments, mineral exploration, and other priority areas.
The MoU was signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Alexandre Silveira, Brazil’s Minister of Mines and Energy. This agreement builds on the results of Sheikh Khaled’s official visit to Brazil in November 2024, where he met President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to examine expanding bilateral cooperation in clean energy, sustainable investments, and mining.
The new MoU aims to encourage mutual investments in mineral development, processing, and marketing while fostering innovation through advanced technologies, research, and workforce development in technical fields.
H.H. Sheikh Khaled reaffirmed the UAE’s commitment to heightening its strategic partnership with Brazil, highlighting the importance of joint efforts to advance sustainability and innovation in the energy and mining sectors.
Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi stated that, “Our collaboration with Brazil underscores the power of our bilateral partnership and shared commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth. This MoU is a milestone in promoting the energy transition and supporting world-class economic, social, and governance practices.”
Alexandre Silveira echoed these sentiments, stating that, “Brazil is proud to strengthen its partnership with the UAE. Robust international collaborations are important for responsible resource management and economic growth. I am confident this partnership will yield meaningful outcomes for both nations.”
The meeting was followed by prominent officials, including Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation; Suhail bin Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure; Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment; Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Executive Affairs Authority; Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council; Saleh Ahmad Salem Alsuwaidi, Ambassador of the UAE to Brazil, and Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Deputy Group CEO at Mubadala.
Economic ties between the UAE and Brazil continue to flourish, with the UAE emerging as Brazil’s second-largest trade partner in the Middle East. Bilateral non-oil trade exceeded $2.64 billion in the first half of 2024, underscoring the strength of this partnership.
