CAIRO: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has participated in the second meeting of Arab Ministers on Disaster Risk Reduction, held at the headquarters of the League of Arab States in Cairo.
Ali Rashid Al Neyadi, Director-General of the National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA), led the UAE delegation, which included representatives from various government agencies.
Al Neyadi emphasized the meeting’s importance as a platform for strengthening Arab cooperation and aligning efforts to address crises and disasters.
In his speech at the opening session, Al Neyadi expressed the UAE’s pride in contributing to the development of the Arab Coordination Mechanism for Disaster Risk Reduction during the 4th meeting. This reflects the country’s commitment to collaborative action in disaster preparedness.
NCEMA highlighted the UAE’s achievements as tangible evidence of its dedication to the goals of the Arab Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction.
The meeting included technical workshops focusing on six main priorities: combating inequality and reducing vulnerabilities, achieving global coverage for early warning systems, developing climate-resilient infrastructure, financing strategies for disaster risk reduction, recovery and reconstruction from disasters, and providing nature-based solutions and environmental approaches to disaster risk reduction.
The participants concluded with an emphasis on the importance of strengthening the UAE’s presence, particularly NCEMA, in the activities of the G20 Working Group on Disaster Risk Reduction.
