Sharjah: The inaugural Tanweer Festival, has envisioned by Sheikha Bodour bint Sultan Al Qasimi, dazzled over 2,000 attendees on its first day, blending music, poetry, and art under the starlit expanse of the Mleiha desert. Celebrating the theme “Timeless Echoes of Love and Light,” the festival attracts inspiration from the teachings of Jalal al-Din Al Rumi.
Sheikha Bodour extended the event with an emotive address, emphasizing unity, compassion, and the transformative power of creativity. Accompanied by Senegalese artist Senny Camara’s enchanting Kora melodies, her words set the stage for a three-day journey through cultural and artistic expression.
The night’s centerpiece was a mesmerizing performance by renowned artist Sami Yusuf. His new composition, “In Al-Andalus – En al-Ándalus,” inspired by Andalusian poet Lisan al-Din Ibn al-Khatib, captivated the audience. Sami Yusuf also performed cherished pieces like “Ilahana” and “A Dancing Heart,” alongside newer works like “Ven Mi Alma,” blending musical practices and celebrating cultural heritage.
Earlier, the Emirati Heritage Band, Al Nadba, opened the day’s performances, paying tribute to local traditions. Lebanese oud maestro Ziyad Sahhab joined forces with Aga Khan laureate Yahya Hussein, creating a powerful blend of past and present. French calligrapher Julien Breton’s ALIF Motion Light Calligraphy counted a luminous dimension, inspired by Rumi’s philosophy.
Closing the night, Anas Alhalabi and his Anas Handpan Orchestra thrilled listeners with a meditative soundscape, cementing his reputation as a regional pioneer. The Tanweer Marketplace buzzed with artisans showcasing Emirati crafts, including woven goods, ceramics, and jewelry. Visitors examined sustainability-themed art installations, designed with eco-friendly materials, while solar-powered lights illuminated the desert pathways.
Culinary delights in the Nourish Zone featured regional dishes like saffron-infused rice and sizzling kebabs, offering a banquet for the senses. The festival is supported by prominent partners such as Emaar, Al Marwan Group, Arada, Tiger Properties, Invest Bank, Asas Real Estate, du, Beeah, Sharjah Municipality, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, Masdar, Mohamed Hilal Group, Emirates Post, Sharjah Airport, Hardo Group, Thumbay, SEWA, and Orient Travel, underscoring the collective commitment to art, heritage, and sustainability. Tanweer Festival continues through the weekend, offering an unforgettable celebration of creativity and connection.
