Abu Dhabi: Renault Trucks Middle East, in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Waste Management PJSC (Tadweer) and Al Masaood, has introduced the first fully electric waste truck in the UAE and the Middle East. This milestone launch aligns with the UAE’s net-zero ambitions and sustainability goals, showcasing the country’s commitment to environmental protection.
The groundbreaking Renault Trucks E-tech truck, which will be exclusively used by Tadweer, the primary waste management authority in Abu Dhabi, is designed to collect household waste throughout the emirate. The manufacturing of this electric truck was carried out by Renault Trucks in partnership with Al Masaood, following a collaborative agreement signed between Tadweer and Al Masaood at the recent EcoWaste Exhibition and Conference.
This pioneering electric truck will not only serve its intended purpose but will also undertake a pilot program to evaluate its performance under the scorching summer temperatures of Abu Dhabi. Additionally, the program aims to address logistical challenges related to charging station availability along key routes.
The Renault Trucks D-Wide E-tech model has already demonstrated its effectiveness and reliability in European cities like Paris and Barcelona, where approximately 100 trucks each have been adopted to uphold sustainability commitments and benefit local communities. By incorporating these electric trucks into their fleets, these cities are projected to eliminate over 4,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually, equivalent to removing 1,000 cars from the roads each year. With a range of up to 200 kilometers between charges, the trucks have already established their value in terms of zero-emissions performance. Tadweer is eager to commence operations with the electric truck on Abu Dhabi’s roads to evaluate and monitor its performance in the demanding summer climate.
The introduction of the UAE’s first 100 percent electric waste truck reinforces Tadweer’s dedication to establishing an integrated waste management system and achieving a circular economy. The Renault Trucks D Wide 26t E-Tech Electric is the ideal vehicle for urban waste collection, offering cost-effective operations while maintaining optimal range and payload capacity. Equipped with a 23 cubic meter Gorica-Farid electric garbage compactor, the Renault Trucks E-Tech D Wide P6x2 will silently collect household waste in Abu Dhabi, emitting zero tailpipe emissions.

The launch of the Renault E-Tech waste management truck is a testament to the UAE’s and Abu Dhabi’s commitment to advancing electrified mobility strategies, placing both the country and its capital at the forefront globally. The federal government of the UAE recently announced plans to install more than 800 electric vehicles (EV) charging stations across the country, further supporting the transition to sustainable transportation infrastructure.
