Berlin: Spain started their UEFA EURO 2024 campaign strong with a 3-0 win against Croatia in Berlin, opening Group B. First-half goals from Álvaro Morata, Fabián Ruiz, and Dani Carvajal secured the victory.
This match marked the fourth consecutive EURO finals meeting between these teams, with Spain claiming their third win over Croatia. Spain dominated early, taking the lead at 29 minutes when Fabián Ruiz’s precise pass found Morata, who scored his seventh EURO finals goal.
Minutes later, Ruiz scored himself, twisting in the box to fire into the bottom-right corner. Croatia responded with efforts from Joško Gvardiol and Ante Budimir, but Spain maintained control.
Spain’s 16-year-old winger, Lamine Yamal, became the youngest player to feature at a EURO and assisted Dani Carvajal’s goal just before halftime. Early in the second half, Yamal nearly scored, but Dominik Livaković’s reflex save denied him.
Croatia had a chance to score when Rodri fouled Bruno Petković in the box, but Unai Simón saved the penalty, securing Spain’s clean sheet.
