Abu Dhabi: His Highness Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, and Chairman of the Presidential Court, has pledged 10,000 trees to the “Regreening Our Mosques” initiative, a nationwide campaign to improve sustainability and environmental conservation in the UAE.
The ‘Regreening Our Mosques’ initiative, spearheaded by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat (GAIAEZ) in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, is being pitched in celebration of the UAE’s 53rd Eid Al Etihad. It aims to plant trees in mosque courtyards across the country, donating to the UAE’s broader vision of sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
The launch event in Abu Dhabi was attended by Dr. Omar Habtoor Al Darei, Chairman of GAIAEZ; Saeed Al Bahri Salem Al Ameri, Director-General of the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA); and other senior officials. To mark the initiative’s commencement, participants planted trees in a mosque courtyard.
Dr. Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, praised Sheikh Mansour’s contribution as a testament to his enduring commitment to environmental sustainability. Amna bint Abdullah noted that the initiative is aligned with the Plant the Emirates program, inspired by the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan’s vision of greening the nation.
Dr. Al Darei also commended Sheikh Mansour’s generosity, emphasizing the UAE leadership’s steadfast support for community and environmental projects, both domestically and internationally. This initiative not only highlights the UAE’s dedication to environmental protection but also serves as a call to integrate sustainability into everyday community spaces, facilitating a greener future for generations to come.
