Dubai: The eighth edition of the Dubai International Baja, a globally recognized cross-country rally, was officially flagged off on 29th November by H.H. Sheikh Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council. Dubai International Baja is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Defence, and Chairman of The Executive Council of Dubai.
Being organized by the Emirates Motorsport Organization (EMSO) in collaboration with the Dubai Sports Council, Dubai International Baja, the UAE’s oldest motorsport event, coincides with the nation’s 53rd Eid Al Etihad festivities. Running from 28th November to 1st December, the rally is based at Dubai Festival City and takes contestants through Hatta’s rugged landscapes and the iconic Al Qudra desert dunes.
This year’s event witnesses record participation, featuring 65 cars and 32 bikes from 37 countries. The Baja is also the season finale for the 2024 FIA World Baja Cup and the 2024 FIM Bajas World Cup, creating it a pivotal event for racers and motorsport fans alike.
Saeed Hareb, Secretary-General of the Dubai Sports Council; Mohammed Ahmed ben Sulayem, President of the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA); and Omar Abdullah Al Futtaim, Vice Chairman and CEO of the Al Futtaim Group, were among the prominent attendees.
Marking its 45th anniversary since its beginning as the Dubai International Rally in 1979, the Baja continues to attract global competitors. Since adopting the Baja format in 1997, the rally now incorporates buggies, bikes, and quads, adding to its appeal and inclusivity.
Supported by Al-Futtaim Toyota, ENOC, and key Dubai Government entities, the Dubai International Baja is promoted to 190 territories worldwide, cementing its reputation as a premier off-road motorsport event.
