Sharjah: The 11th edition of the Sharjah Calligraphy Forum, themed “Numerals,” has concluded after a two-month-long celebration of Arabic calligraphy.
The event, which drew over 30,000 visitors from around the globe, reaffirmed Sharjah’s standing as a hub for cultural and artistic exchange.
Organized by the Cultural Affairs Department of the Sharjah Department of Culture, under the patronage of HH Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the forum was conducted at various venues across the emirate.
The event showcased 600 stunning artworks by 260 artists representing diverse countries. Visitors explored 30 exhibitions, 94 activities, and 57 seminars. The event partnered with over 30 local and international institutions, creating a vibrant atmosphere for cultural exchange.
Mohammed Ibrahim Al Qaseer, Director of the Cultural Affairs Department at the Sharjah Department of Culture, emphasized that, “Arabic calligraphy is a cornerstone of our historical heritage, and with this forum, we shine a light on its artistic significance.”
The highlights of the forum included the “Reviving Scripts” exhibition, featuring 67 original pieces by five artists dedicated to preserving ancient scripts, and an international symposium, “Arabic Calligraphy – Methods and Schools,” hosted at the House of Wisdom.
Several artists were honored for their contributions to Arabic calligraphy, underscoring the emirate’s commitment to celebrating and preserving this rich art form.
The Sharjah Calligraphy Forum not only celebrates the past but also integrates modern interpretations, ensuring that Arabic calligraphy remains a vibrant part of global cultural heritage.
