Sharjah: The 44th Sharjah International Book Fair (SIBF 2025) has opened under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Organized by the Sharjah Book Authority at Expo Centre Sharjah, the fair has united more than 250 authors and creatives from 66 countries, featuring over 2,350 publishers presenting millions of titles.
Running until November 16, SIBF 2025 has embraced the theme ‘Between You and a Book’ to highlight the timeless connection between readers and literature. This year’s Guest of Honor, Greece, has showcased its rich literary and cultural legacy through 58 publishers, 600 titles, and more than 70 participating authors, poets, and scholars.
At the Greek pavilion, visitors can explore the exhibition ‘Greek Literature: The Long Journey’, celebrating the works of Greek poets and philosophers who have shaped both national identity and global literary thought. The program includes interactive theatre, musical performances inspired by Greek poetry, and joint sessions with Emirati authors.

Egyptian writer and playwright Mohamed Salmawy has been honored as the Cultural Personality of the Year for his decades-long contributions to Arab literature and theatre. His recognition highlights SIBF’s commitment to celebrating intellectual excellence and creative impact.
SIBF 2025 has also drawn international attention with the participation of global star Will Smith, who will discuss his multifaceted career in writing, film, and entrepreneurship. Actors Khaled El Sawy and Dhafer L’Abidine are among the many Arab creatives featured in sessions exploring the intersection of acting and writing.
The fair’s cultural program includes 300 sessions featuring 66 international and 62 Arab speakers. Over 750 workshops have been scheduled, including professional training in translation, creative writing, and publishing. A highlight of this edition is the Thriller Festival, organized in partnership with the Thriller Festival New York, bringing together top authors of mystery and suspense.
SIBF 2025 continues to serve as a global platform for dialogue, creativity, and cross-cultural understanding. From poetry evenings in eight languages to 35 live cooking sessions at the Cookery Corner, the event has offered something for every visitor, reaffirming Sharjah’s reputation as a beacon of culture and knowledge.
