SHARJAH: The Costa Rican Foreign Trade Promoter (PROCOMER) and a delegation from the Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) have discussed ways to enhance their participation in each other’s trade shows.
The goal was to explore opportunities for increasing investments, improving trade and economic cooperation, and boosting joint exports and investments across several key industries. Both parties also focused on how to foster better communication among business leaders from both nations.
The meeting took place at the Sharjah Chamber’s headquarters, with Mario Sáenz, PROCOMER’s Director of Exports, and Mohammed Ahmed Amin Al Awadi, Director-General of the Chamber, leading the discussion. Fatima Khalifa Al-Muqrab, Head of the International Relations Department at SCCI, and other officials from both sides were also present.
During the talks, the Sharjah Chamber invited the Costa Rican delegation to join the Emirates Perfumes and Oud Exhibition, which will be held by Expo Centre Sharjah with the Chamber’s support in October 2024. This invitation reflects SCCI’s commitment to strengthening trade relations.
In response, Costa Rica invited the Sharjah Chamber to visit their booths at the World of Coffee and GITEX international trade shows in Dubai. This would give the Chamber a chance to see firsthand the products Costa Rica will be showcasing.
Mohammed Al Awadi noted that the recent Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the two countries has opened up many opportunities for collaboration and growth. With bilateral non-oil trade between the UAE and Costa Rica expected to reach $65 million by 2023, the agreement is set to further enhance trade flows and create new avenues for cooperation.
Al Awadi also highlighted Sharjah’s ongoing progress in media, technology, and logistics, which align with the emirate’s goals of attracting foreign investment, expanding its economic base, and promoting sustainability and innovation.
The Costa Rican team shared details about the exciting opportunities and projects being pursued by PROCOMER, especially in technology, media, gaming, and artificial intelligence. They emphasized their goal to strengthen trade ties with Sharjah and form partnerships that will boost Costa Rican exports to the UAE, particularly in the food sector.
At the end of the discussion, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing cooperation between their business communities. They encouraged companies to seize the trade and investment opportunities available, aiming for long-term economic growth and mutual prosperity.
