Sharjah: In celebration of Arab Document Day on 17th October, The Documents House in Sharjah has launched the “Documents are a Trust” campaign, emphasizing the importance of preserving historical records to safeguard the heritage and identity of nations.
The initiative aims to raise awareness about the role of archives in preserving governmental documents and historical facts through a well-structured management system for Sharjah’s government entities. It highlights the need for accurate documentation to maintain historical integrity and ensure future generations can rely on authentic records.
His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah remarked that, “A document is a cornerstone upon which future generations will rely to preserve their identity and refute any falsification or theft of their past and present,” underscoring the campaign’s core message.
As part of the initiative, residents are encouraged to contribute by submitting personal documents or copies, helping enrich the emirate’s archival resources. The collective effort reflects the belief that historical records are a shared trust, vital for safeguarding the emirate’s legacy.
Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairman of The Documents House, emphasized that, “Documents are more than mere records of events; they represent a trust we must protect for future generations.” He stressed that the initiative is rooted in the conviction that preserving documents is essential to safeguarding Sharjah’s history.
The two-day campaign held at the House of Wisdom in Sharjah includes exhibitions, workshops on document restoration and preservation, and a photographic display titled “The First in Sharjah,” showcasing the emirate’s early developmental milestones.
The campaign encourages public appreciation for the role of archives in protecting history while promoting collaboration between the community and government entities in preserving Sharjah’s cultural heritage.
